Breathe new life into an old console

Old organ consoles can often be successfully converted for use with Hauptwerk. If your console already has MIDI capability the process is relatively straightforward and there are plenty of online resources explaining the process. For older analogue instruments adding MIDI is more laborious, often involving much soldering.

A recent conversion

Here Forest Organs was approached to MIDIfy and combine a two manual Compton organ with a three manual stack the client had purchased on eBay. Full height mortise and tenon side panels were remanufactured to table height. The table top was extended to accommodate the full depth of the new stack. Two additional expression pedals were fabricated to match the original, with an adjustable music desk and general piston rail formed out of off-cuts. It all had to fit under the eaves of an attic room on a very tight budget, but the wood-core keyboards are a delight to play on and the pedalboard is magnificent. The console is modular and can be dismantled for relocation.
